Eugene R. Lewis

Eugene R. Lewis, 76, of Wayne Township, passed away Thursday at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg. 

Born in William Penn, July 2, 1938, he was a son of the late Wilbur Lewis and Martha Richards Lewis Thomas. 

Gene was married to the former Jeanette H. Hardy for 52 years. 

He was a 1956 graduate of Minersville High School.

He served in the Navy and was employed by numerous state liquor stores in Schuylkill County for 28 years.

Gene was an active member of Bethany Christian Fellowship, Cressona, and the Pine Grove Lions Club for 40 years. He was treasurer of Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees, (P.A.R.S.E) and a member of the Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club and the Good Will Hose Company, Cressona. 

In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Chester Thomas, and a sister, Ruthann Somers.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Douglass Lewis and wife, Holly, North Manheim Township; a daughter, Tracy Jansson, Hershey, and son-in-law, Douglas Jansson, Schuylkill Haven; nine grandchildren, Brooks, Bryce, Brayden, Brandt, Abigail, Ariel, Amelia and Abree Lewis and Chelsea Schnoke, wife of Ryan; a brother, Robert Thomas and wife, Sandy, Quakertown; a brother-in-law, George Somers and wife, Brenda, Phoenix Park; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven, with Pastor Dennis Snyder officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be privately held at the family's convenience.

At the family's request, memorial donations in Gene's name may be sent to Pine Grove Lions Club, 1 Veterans Memorial Drive, Pine Grove, PA 17963.
