George J. Fidler

George J. Fidler passed away at his home in Auburn on November 19, 2015.

 

He was 89 years old.  George was born in Summit Station on December 22, 1925, the son of late Helen (Boger) Fidler and George  D. Fidler.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy, and a son, Thomas & wife, Lauree of Harrisburg, three grandchildren, Christin Creznic & husband, Nathaniel, Harrisburg, Jared Balsbaugh, Baltimore, MD, and Kassi Balsbaugh, Littleton, CO, and three great-grandchildren.

 

George was a graduate of Auburn High School.  He was a World War II veteran serving as a US Army Tech Sergeant in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.  He was an electrical contactor and appliance dealer for 40 years.  George was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Auburn, and served on the church council for 6 years.  He served as an associate board member of the former Pennsylvania National Bank for 28 years.  George served on both the Auburn Borough Council and the Auburn Municipal Authority for 10 years.  He was a longtime member of the Auburn VFW and American Legion, and the Auburn Fish & Game Association.  He was a member for more than 50 years of the Masonic Schuylkill Lodge No. 138 and the Schuylkill County Shrine Club.  He was also a member for 50 years of the Rajah Temple of Reading, and the Scottish Rite bodies in the Valley of Reading.

 

George enjoyed golfing and hunting.  He was an avid fan of the Philladelphia Phillies and Eagles.

 

A visitation will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Auburn, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, November 24th.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 24th.  Interment with military honors is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24th at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.  A procession will leave the church promptly at 1:30 p.m.
