Gerald M. Haas, 86, of RD Pottsville, passed away peacefully Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street.
Born in Pottsville, Oct. 16, 1930, he was a son of the late John A. and Catherine Gallagher Haas.
He was the husband of Mary Jane Lord Haas, to whom he was married for 61 years.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.
He served in the Navy.
He retired from Alcoa Extrusions, Lebanon, also from Blue Mountain School District and Hidden Valley Golf Course.
Gerry was a member of Schuylkill Haven American Legion, Schuylkill Haven VFW, Alcoa 25-Year Club, Schuylkill Haven and Tremont Golf Leagues. He was Schuylkill County golf champion in 1997 and was senior golf champion in his age group in 2007.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Haas and John Haas Jr.; four sisters, Patricia Rozanskas, Phyllis Fox, Fay Verica and Rosemary Krater.
Gerry is survived by a daughter, Jane Ann, wife of John Ege, Deer Lake; two sons, Gerald M. Haas II and his fiancee, Cindy Schwartz, Pottsville, and Randy J., husband of Lisa Haas, Orwigsburg; seven grandchildren, Tyler Haas, Blake Haas, Jordan Haas, Jonathan Ege, Justin Ege, Kevin Haas and Olivia Haas; a sister, Lucille Moyer, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., 25 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven, with Rebecca Devlin, certified funeral celebrant, officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
