Greta W. Derbes, 80, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street.
Greta was born in Port Clinton, Jan. 1, 1937, a daughter of the late William and Irene Knoblauch Williams.
She was the wife of David G. Derbes Sr. They were married in June 1960, celebrating 57 years of marriage.
Greta was a graduate of Pottsville High School, Class of 1954. She worked as a secretary and office manager of the advertising department at the Pottsville Republican-Herald newspaper and she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pottsville. She liked to read, do crossword puzzles and cross-stitching, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.
Greta was preceded in death by her daughter, Patty Derbes Ebling, and a sister, Joan Williams.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, David G. Derbes Jr., husband of Maureen, Pottsville, and William G. Derbes, husband of Lisa, Pottsville; son-in-law Ande Ebling, widower of Patty Derbes; six grandchildren, Becky, Kelly, Logan and Jordyn Derbes, and Kaley and Collin Ebling; sister, Anne Gaburick, wife of Anthony, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Fourth and West Market streets, Pottsville, with the Rev. John Wallace officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
