Jessica Lynn Ney

Jessica Lynn Ney, 36, of Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, March 15th, at her residence. Born in Pottsville on November 26, 1981, she was a daughter of Francis Ney & Jayne Grickis. Jessica is preceded in death by maternal grandfathers: Richard Grickis & William Lambert, paternal grandparents: Norman & Lillian Bowen, and cousin, Adam Grickis. She graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School, Class of 2000, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Pottsville. In addition to her parents, Jessica is also survived by a daughter, Brianna Ney, three sisters, Desiree Lesko, Amber Groll, & Linsy Ney, two brothers, Tyler Rhine, & Eddie Ney, maternal grandmother, Betty Grickis, aunts, uncles, cousins,& dear friend, Sam Santiago. Jessica was a beautiful, vibrant person who struggled with addiction since her teens. She would get some clean time, work a program, seem so incredibly happy & relapse. Her addiction took her to unimaginable places. She lived under a bridge in South Philly for 2.5 years because she could use and no one bothered her. She got into a program 1.5 years ago and stayed clean. Then a doctor suggested methadone because statistics show heroin addicts have a better chance of long term sobriety with methadone, and she believed them. Almost a month ago she entered a treatment facility to get off methadone. She begged them to allow her to stay longer but her insurance wouldn’t allow it. On March 15th she was released from treatment and a few hours later she passed. She fought so damn hard but her disease told her she had no friends. Her disease told her she had no one in this world who cared about her. Her disease lied, time and again. Cunning, baffling, powerful. On March 15th she passed, alone. Believing no one cared. She had plans to go to a meeting that night and do outreach work the following day. She has an army of people who cared, as does each and every one of us. The disease of addiction took her life. Please, please don’t become another statistic. Reach out, make a call, go to a meeting, do anything but do not pick up that drink or that drug. Private services will be held at the family's convenience with Pastor Lenny Duncan officiating.
