Rev. Alan H. Reider

The Reverend Alan H. Reider died on December 11, 2017 at the age of 82, Raised as a member of St John’s United Church of Christ in Schuylkill Haven, he was ordained there in 1960. He received his undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College and his graduate degree from Harvard. He has spent his entire career in the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ. He has had a country parish (Bethel, Berks County) a suburban one (Heidelberg, Schwenksville) and an inner city (Kensington, Philadelphia). He was an inner city pastor in the “badlands” for 27 years.

He also has his public librarian certification and was Extension Librarian for the Montgomery County Public Library District for 37 years. He did this full time while serving Kensington part time. He retired from Kensington in 1999. Since retirement he has served as interim pastor at Bethany Church, Philadelphia; Ascension, Jeffersonville; St Matthews, Chester Springs.

Other interests include motorcycling, German Shepherds, and the Elmwood Park Zoo.

He leaves a daughter, Sharon LeVan Kaimmer, Seattle, WA, two sisters, Susan Reider Eichlin and husband Roger, Leesport, PA and Mary Jane Reider Olson and her husband Paul, Schuylkill Haven, PA., three grandchildren and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert W. Reider and Grace I. Reider and a younger brother, Robert Warren Reider Jr.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial gifts can be given to the Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Boulevard, Morristown PA, 19401 or
