Richard T. Williams Sr., 70, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away peacefully Thursday evening at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown.

Born March 14, 1947, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Harold and Bertha Allison Williams.

He was the husband of the former Claudia Heiser. They were married in 1970.

He was a 1965 graduate of Blue Mountain High School and retired in 2003 from Fort Indiantown Gap.

He was a life member of the Rainbow and Schuylkill Hose companies and a life member of the Liberty Fire Company, where he once held the position of assistant chief. He also was a life member of the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society, Community Fire Company, Landingville, and a member of the Robert E. Baker Post 38, Schuylkill Haven.

His other well known involvements included coaching Biddy Basketball, Midget Football and Little League. He was also heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Cub master with Pack 125 and he later became district commissioner. He received awards for Indian Run District Commissioner and Hawk Mountain Silver Beaver award for outstanding service to youth. He earned Wood Badge and Order of the Arrow. He taught Cub Scout Leader Training, Scout Leader Training and the Commissioners College of Knowledge.

In addition to his wife, Rich is survived by his three sons, John, Rich Jr., husband of Brenda Argaves Williams, and Andy and his companion, Melissa; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Schuylkill Historical Fire Society, 105 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, PA 17976. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven. A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. following the viewing at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Schwenk officiating. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
