Robert L. Favreau

Robert L. "Bob" Favreau, 87, of Pottsville, passed away Friday at Providence Place Retirement Community. 

Bob was born in Worcester, Mass., June 11, 1930, a son of the late Alice Driscoll and George L. Favreau.

He was predeceased by his wife, Muriel A. Smith Favreau, who died March 10, 1989.

Bob was a 1952 graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, earning his B.S. in chemical engineering. After graduation, he spent two years working for DuPont's atomic energy division before commencing an 18 month tour of duty in the Army, serving in Kokura, Japan. Upon his return, he and Muriel moved to Aiken, S.C., where he continued his work with DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. After moves to Iowa and Virginia, Bob decided to leave DuPont to pursue a career in plastics manufacturing. He and his family moved to Orwigsburg in 1965, the place he would call home for the rest of his life. 

After moving to Schuylkill County, Bob spent the remainder of his career in plant management positions at Exxon Chemicals, PolyPlastic Products and St. Jude Polymer. He retired at the age of 75. Throughout his career, he was involved in the community, having served as president of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce from 1978-80; president of the Manufacturers Association of Schuylkill County (now known as the Northeast PA Manufacturers & Employers Association); board of directors at the former Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center from 1980-92; chairman and board of directors for the Good Samaritan Development Corp. from 1986-93; chairman for the Southern Schuylkill United Way Campaign in 1983; and past president of the board of directors and board of trustees of the Schuylkill Country Club.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Lucinda Drasher, wife of Dane, Dover, N.H., and Robin L. Harley, Schuylkill Haven; grandchildren, Ryan C. Drasher, Durham, N.H., Colby R. Drasher, Boston, Mass., Caitlin A. Harley, Philadelphia, and Brendan J. Harley, Limerick; sister, Jean Wardzala, Paxton, Mass.; as well as all of his caregivers at Providence Place.

Services and interment will be private at the convenience of family. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Orwigsburg Area Free Public Library, 214 E. Independence St., Orwigsburg, PA 17961, or National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.
