Robert G. Stabingas, 65, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away peacefully Monday after a short stay at Orwigsburg Center.

Born in Pottsville, Aug. 28, 1949, he was a son of the late George and Nellie Brillius Stabingas.

He was married to his devoted wife, Phyllis A. Sleva Stabingas.

Bob was a graduate of Saint Clair High School, Class of 1967. He attended Penn State University and was a graduate in mortuary sciences of the American Academy McAllister Institute, New York, N.Y.

He served his funeral director's apprenticeship with the former Bast & Detweiler Funeral Home, currently Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven. After graduation from mortuary school, Bob operated his father's funeral home in Saint Clair. He retired as the owner/operator and funeral director of Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Schuylkill/Lebanon Funeral Directors Association. Bob was past president of the Schuylkill Haven Lion's Club and past president and member of the East Ward Social Club. 

He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Stabingas.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by three sisters, Sandra, wife of John Gutowski, Lewes, Del., Marian, wife of William Herb, Chestertown, Md., and Doris Stabingas, St. Augustine, Fla.; and a brother, Richard C. Stabingas and wife, Denise, Schuylkill Haven. He is also survived by two nieces, Kimberly Finn and Kristen Stabingas; two nephews, Jason and Bryan Herb; and cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Bob Reiley officiating. There will be no visitation at the church. Interment will be privately held at the family's convenience. The family requests remembrances in the form of contributions to St. Ambrose School, 201 Randel St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972 or Robert E. Baker, Post 38 American Legion, 229 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
