Wayne N. Witmier, 93, of Genesis Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, passed away Wednesday at the center.
Born in Jefferson, Sept. 28, 1921, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Emma B. Ney Witmier.
He attended Auburn schools and had served in the Army during World War II.
Wayne was the owner and operator of Witmier Appliance Repair, Pottsville.
He was a life member and the past vice president Good Intent Fire Company, where he was also a trustee. Wayne was a member of Auburn VFW; Summit Station AMVETS, where he had served as past commander; Summit Station Fire Company; a lifetime member of the Mechanicsville Game & Fish; and Auburn American Legion. He was also a Pottsville fire policeman.
Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie D. Dempsey Witmier. The couple would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on Feb. 22.
Wayne is survived by two daughters, Beverly A., wife of Gene Williams, York, and Donna L., wife of Ronald Tranosky, Pottsville; a son, Gary W., husband of Darlene "Pinky" Witmier, Pottsville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Summer Hill, Auburn, with the Rev. Bradley Walmer officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Interment will follow the service at Summer Hill Cemetery.
