Richard Charles Horning, 71, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday at his residence.

Born in Pottsville, July 5, 1944, he was a son of the late David and Elizabeth Bair Horning. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Horning.

He was the husband of Linda D. Brown Horning. The couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 9.

Dick was a graduate of Pottsville High School, Class of 1962, and had been employed by the former Pottsville Hospital as maintenance supervisor.

He served in the Navy as an E4.

He was very active for several decades in Schuylkill Haven Little League, where he served as past president and coach. He was also the coach for teener league, Legion baseball and biddy basketball in Schuylkill Haven. Dick devoted many years of his life to Schuylkill Haven sports.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Linda, are two daughters, Sheila VanOrden, Cumbola, and April Killian, wife of Russell, Schuylkill Haven; a son, Todd Horning and wife, Karen, Pottsville; grandchildren, Tawny, Tava, Kaleb, Zaidian, Kahmaya, Brady and Cameron; a godson, Jared Horning, Pottsville. Richard is also survived by siblings, Peggy Spotts, wife of Roger, Schuylkill Haven, Donald Horning, husband of Cherri, Florida, Linda Shollenberger, wife of Tom, Schuylkill Haven, William Horning, widower of Jo Ann, Minersville, Karen Horning, Pottsville, and Tim Horning, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Ge-schwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven, with certified celebrant Rebecca D. Devlin officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Anyone wishing to give donations in memory of Dick may do so by making checks payable to Lewis, Williams and Caravan, and mailed to the office at 102 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972. All the money collected will then purchase a memorial to be presented to the Schuylkill Haven Little League.
