Mary Alda Bamford Obituary

Mary Alda Bamford, 91, passed away Saturday, February 24th, at Providence Place Retirement Community, Pottsville, where she had been a resident. 

Born in Pottsville, PA on December 31, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Wilton Ross Glenney and Alda Mary (Piercy) Glenney.

Her husband of 53 years, John R. Bamford, preceded her in death on July 5, 2000.

Mary Alda was a 1945 graduate of Sherman High School, Texas, and a 1947 graduate of Colorado Women's College.

She had worked as the assistant secretary/treasurer at Schuylkill Haven Bleach & Dye.

Mary Alda was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Pottsville. 

She was an avid golfer.  Mary Alda belonged to the Schuylkill Country Club and Ladies Golf Association.  She was a charter member of the US Golf Association, as well the Womens Central Pennsylvania Golf Association.  

Mary Alda was past director of the Board of the Pottsville Hospital & Warne Clinic Auxiliary.  She belonged to Allied Artists of Schuylkill County and was a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, as well as a member of the Pennsylvania Jazz Society.

She was a single engine private pilot and was a member of the Ninety-Nines. 

Mary Alda is survived by two daughters, Gail B. Sibley, Charleston, SC, & Marilyn B. Huddleston, Denton, MD, two sons, Scott M. Bamford, Auburn, & Roy J. Bamford, Downersgrove, IL, grandchildren: Alexander & Gregory Sibley, Christopher & Neil Greenawalt, Andrew Huddleston, and Lauren & Bradley Bamford, and great-grandchildren: Kayla, Cameron, Chloe, & Dashiell Greenawalt, and Grayson Matukewicz.

Services & interment will be privately held at the family's convenience.
