Anthony R. "Andy" Kupko 97, of Luther Ridge, died Saturday morning at Luther Ridge, Pottsville.
Andy was born in Minersville, May 10, 1919, a son of the late Edward Kupko and Josephine Manel. He was a former resident of Schuylkill Haven.
He graduated from Minersville High School in 1937. He signed a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, but one week later was called to active duty with the Army in World War II. He was also a great Philadelphia sport fan.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1982.
Andy was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven, Page Lodge 270 F&AM, a past Grand Tall of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Pottsville Lodge 50, Schuylkill Haven Senior Citizen and the Saint Clair Oldtimers.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Christine A. "Teeny" Reber, on Sept. 30, 2011; a sister, Esther; a brother, Raymond.
Surviving are two nieces, Sara Reber and Joann Devich; three nephews, Charles Allerman, Kenneth and Richard Reber.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Church of Christ, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Shawn Van Dyke officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 9:30 until time of service. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
