George Anthony Kubilus Jr, 94, of Minersville, passed away Monday, February 9th at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Schuylkill E Norwegian St, Pottsville.
Born in Pottsville on October 11th, 1931, he was the son of the late Julia (Starzetski) Kubilus and George Anthony Kubilus Sr.
He was a graduate of Blythe Township High School, Class of 1949. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956. He worked as a welder at Summit Trailers, Summit Station. Married for 72 years, he was a loving husband to his wife, Anna Margaret (Bohn) Kubilus.
Family was everything to George. Whether gathered around the table, celebrating milestones, or just spending an afternoon together, he treasured every moment. He took pride in his children and grandchildren, cheering them on, offering advice when needed, and reminding them that they were deeply loved.
A lifelong lover of music, George led and played trumpet for a Pennsylvania based premiere polka band under his stage name, Joe Misti Orchestra for decades. He recorded four albums during that time and wrote much of his own music. He especially appreciated classical and jazz music.
He brought energy and spirit to every performance, and his music filled dance halls, family gatherings, and countless celebrations with joy. He was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan and moreover loved the game of baseball. He could often be found in his favorite chair, with his coffee, enjoying a Sunday afternoon ballgame. Sharing these times with family was one of his greatest joys.
George’s life was built on love, hard work, service, and devotion. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the lessons he taught, his inspirational quotes and the countless moments he gave to his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Edward.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, four children; Anita Reber (Jacqueline), Anthony Kubilus, Angela Toomey (James), and Desiree Muench (Stephen), grandchildren Marcus and Jill Toomey, Gina Downey (Richie), Nicholas, Christopher, and Grace Muench, and great-grandchildren Cole and Clara Downey.
Services will be privately held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pottsville Area Music Endowment, PO Box 20, Pottsville, PA 17901.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved. There will never be another husband, father, or grandfather like him.
Lord Ebling Haus Funeral Home, Pottsville, has been entrusted with arrangements.
