Joseph Francis Costanzo, 84, of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly at his home on July 10, 2026. He was of the Catholic faith.
Born on October 9 1941 he was the son of the late James V. And Georgianna (Sterner) Costanzo. He was a lifelong resident of Schuylkill Haven and attended Saint Ambrose and Schuylkill Haven schools. He often reminisced with family and friends about their days growing up on the old “Irish Flats” which is today known as Island Park.
Joe learned a strong work ethic early in life caddying with his brothers at the country club. He put the lessons he learned caddying to good use as golf became a lifelong endeavor and kept him involved and active throughout his entire life. He played in many local leagues and on many courses in the area with friends he made and kept through golf.
He was a proud Navy Veteran and served from 1959 thru 1964 aboard the USS Mississinewa and USS Hoist where he was seriously injured in an aboard ship accident handling lines. He spent the last 6 months of his enlistment in various hospitals in recovery.
He returned to Sch. Haven and spent his career working in the automotive business, primarily with Becker Brothers Automotive, in many different capacities from driving a car carrier to reconditioning cars and everything in between.
In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by brothers Francis, and James ”Bambi”.
He is survived by his sons Joseph and David, and his granddaughter Sarah, his brother Robert ”Monk” (Ethel), and cousin Ricky Achenbach (MaryAnn) with whom he spent much time as a child and had the stories to prove it! Additionally survived by Aunt Joan Sterner and cousins Art, Michael, Robert and Bill, sister in-law Kay (Bambi) and nieces and nephews, as well as his long time companion of over 25 years Ann Butcavage and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren including Jaida who was like another granddaughter to him. Joe and Ann enjoyed many years of attending dances and watching bands at local establishments as well as Sunday shopping and ice cream trips with Jaida since she was a young child. Joe touched many other lives through the years including Tim, Brian and Rod McGovern and Jill Doss.
Joe will be forever remembered for his honest appreciation for life, and love and loyalty to those he knew and loved. He will be dearly missed.
