Louis J. Slonina

Louis J. Slonina, 92, passed away Friday at Providence Place, Pottsville, where he had been a resident.

Born in Middleport, Sept. 30, 1923, he was a son of the late Jacob and Anna Dzikowski Slonina.

Louis proudly served in the Army in Company C, 148th Engineer Battalion, during the Invasion of Europe in World War II. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Victory Medal with five bronze stars.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Polish National Catholic Church and American Legion Post 144, both of Middleport.

Louis was formerly employed by Hecla Machinery as a heavy equipment operator.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Stanley, Walter, Henry and Bernard Slonina.

He is survived by his caregivers; nephew, Edward Slonina and his wife, Patricia, Oxford, Conn.; nieces, Barbara Trippe and Mary Page, Virginia; sister-in-law, Virginia Slonina, Poquoson, Va.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Polish National Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Wosiak officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, 26 Chestnut St., Cressona. Interment will follow Mass at St. Joseph's Polish National Catholic Church Cemetery, Brockton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Polish National Catholic Church, 1 Saint Clair St., Middleport, PA 17953.
