Margaret L. “Peggy” Allen, 75, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday, September 17th at Providence Place Retirement Community.
Peggy was the wife of former State Representative Bob Allen, with whom she co-owned the former Allen & Pugh Funeral Home. They were married for 52 years.
Born in Pottsville on November 6, 1950, she was the daughter of the late M. Joseph Coyle and Catherine Coyle (nee Langan). She was a 1968 graduate of Nativity BVM High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in 1972.
She was a dedicated educator at the former Jalappa Elementary School of the Pottsville Area School District, Blue Mountain Elementary West, and Blue Mountain Middle School before retiring in 2006. She was also formerly employed at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
She attended First United Methodist Church with her husband and was a former member of St. Patrick’s Church, Pottsville. She was a member of the Pottsville Philanthropic Club and was a former volunteer for the Pottsville Free Public Library.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Coyle, a sister Sheila Coyle Connor, and son-in-law Keith Mitchell.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Megan Allen Mitchell, Arlington, MA; a son Thomas Allen (Jamie) of Havertown; grandchildren Cora Mitchell, Mariel Allen & Rhys Allen; siblings Barbara Trout (Jack) of Harrisburg, Robert Coyle (Sandy) of State College, Joseph Coyle (Kristan) of Abington, Thomas Coyle (Mary) of Ashburn, VA, Mary Pompella (William) of Fleetwood, Kathy Gereski (David) of Venice, FL; nieces and nephews.
A Viewing for family & friends will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, September 21st at First United Methodist Church, Pottsville.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 22nd at First United Methodist Church, Pottsville with Rev. John Wallace officiating. A Viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday.
Interment will follow at Charles Baber Cemetery, Pottsville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 330 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901 or the Pottsville Free Public Library, 215 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
