Mary Elizabeth Gilbert

Mary Elizabeth Gilbert, 87 of Schuylkill Haven, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Orwigsburg Center.

She was born in Pottsville on October 20, 1938, a daughter of the late Donald and Sarah Jane (Frankenstein) Schwartz.

Mary was the widow of Melvin M. Gilbert, Sr.

She attended Pottsville Area High School.

She was a member of Zion’s Red Church, Orwigsburg.

Mary enjoyed seasonal camping at Christmas Pines Campground for 50 plus years.

Mary is survived by children Melvin M. Gilbert, Jr., Marlo A. Kershner, wife of Mike, Melissa E. Strauch, wife of John and Martin D. Gilbert, husband of Rebecca; grandchildren Melvin Gilbert III, Jonah Gilbert, husband of Michala, Cassie Deaven, wife of Dakota, Casey Kershner, Hunter Strauch, Jacob Gilbert and Aaron Gilbert, great-grandchildren Mya Gilbert, Eliza Deaven and Archer Gilbert, sister Sally Houseknecht, several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
