Mary Lee Reed, 76, of Hamburg, passed away Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 at home.

Mary was born in Starkville, Mississippi on January 27, 1950, a daughter of the late Steven A Sr & Bonnie Lee (Slawson) Vandevender.

Married 40 years, she was the loving wife of Mark Allen Reed. She was also a career Air Force Military wife that dedicated herself and supported her husband’s career during deployments, operations and conflicts.

Mary was a National Honor Society and Summa Cum Laude graduate of L. C. Humes High School, Memphis, Tn.

She started her career in the eye care field as an Optician and quickly completed her Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician.

Mary loved her family but she also loved her cardinals or as she called them “red bird’s”. She was a diehard European Football Premier League Arsenal fan, loved to read her novels and drink her Diet Cokes. Most of all she was known for southern accent along with her quote “I don’t have an accent, Ya’ll have an accent” when someone would ask her where she was from. Then reply she was from Mississippi or as she pronounced it “Missippi”!

In addition to her husband, Mary is also survived by granddaughter, Piper Elizabeth Reed attending Kutztown University, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Reed of Kutztown, brother, Walt Vandevender of Albuquerque New Mexico, mother-in-law, Betty Schaeffer of Orwigsburg, sisters-in law, brothers-in law, and nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her two sons: Gregory Allen Reed, & Christopher Mark Reed, her siblings: Betty, Anne, Bonnie Faye, Wanda, Linda, Steven "Pete" Jr, and In-law’s Arthur D Sr & Catherine M Reed and Lamar R Schaeffer Sr.

Celebration of Life service will be held at the Orwigsburg Veterans Memorial building. (TBD) Private interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. (TBD)
