Teresa Mercuri, 89, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Platania CZ, Italy on July 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Rosaria (Isabella) and Vincenzo Mercuri.
Teresa was the beloved wife of the late Natale “Chris” Mercuri, who preceded her in death in 2015.
She was a devoted member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven and a lifelong member of the former St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville.
She was also previously active in the Amor Italian Club Ladies Auxiliary.
Alongside her husband, Teresa owned and operated several well-known local establishments, including Mercuri’s Bar, the Davis Hotel, Villa Montagna, and, most recently, the Country Squire.
Above all else, Teresa’s greatest pride and purpose was her family. A devoted mother and the cherished matriarch of five children, she found her deepest happiness in caring for those she loved. She had a remarkable gift in the kitchen and was especially known for preparing incredible Italian meals that brought everyone to the table. Nothing made her happier than having her large family gathered together, sharing food, laughter, and treasured time with one another. Her home was filled with warmth, generosity, and traditions that will continue for generations.
In addition to her husband, Teresa was preceded in death by her daughters, Teresa Mary Rinaldo and Natalie Gennerella and her husband, Robert; her brothers, Francesco Mercuri and his wife, Leda, and Totonnos Mercuri and his wife Gerarda; her sister-in-law, Maria Mercuri and her husband, Frank; and Winnie Doyne and her husband, Dave.
She is survived by her children, Antonette “Tina” Mercuri, wife of Domenic, of Schuylkill Haven; Rosina Mercuri of Pottsville; and Domenico P. Mercuri of Pottsville; her son-in-law, Chuck Rinaldo, husband of Terry Brennan, of Pottsville; her grandchildren, Terri Lee, wife of Ian Keck; Christopher A. Mercuri and his fiancée, Madison Accordino; Angela Hufnagle, wife of Eric; Alexandra Patrocino, wife of Willy; Regina Wozniski, wife of Derek; and Maria Luscan, wife of Harry; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Luciano, Gianni, and Lorenzo Keck; Cambria, Giuliana, Domenic, Dario, and Luella Mercuri; Marcus and Elliot Patrocino; Carlo and Elliana Luscan; Rafaella Wozniski; Adaline Hufnagle; and step-great-granddaughter Izzy Accordino.
She is also survived by her loving siblings, Maria Mercuri of Pottsville, widow of the late John Mercuri; Albino Mercuri and his wife, Ivana, of Pottsville; and Santo Domenico Mercuri and his wife, Maria, of Italy, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, June 12, at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven.
A viewing for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:15 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Interment will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Pottsville.
