Tyler J. Hoptak, 41, of Johnstown, PA passed away Thursday, April 23rd, at home.
Born in West Reading, PA on March 21, 1985, he was a son of Cheryl A. (Kull) Kelly, of Pottsville and the late James A. Hoptak, Jr.
Tyler is also preceded in death by his step-father, John J. “Jack” Kelly, Jr., maternal grandparents, Melvin & Mary Kull, paternal grandfather, James A. Hoptak, Sr., and several other family members.
He was a 2003 graduate of Pottsville Area High School, where he participated in the PAHS marching band where he enjoyed playing trumpet and being with his friends at football games and special events.
Tyler attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for nursing. He was previously employed by Providence Place, Pottsville.
He enjoyed the simple things in life - taking walks, nature, riding his bike, and loving his cats and his dog Kodiak. His smile and his sensitive spirit will be missed by all.
He was a former member of the Salvation Army Pottsville Corps. In addition to his mother, Tyler is also survived by two siblings: Phillip Hoptak, Pottsville, & Ashley, wife of Karlton Gantt, Jacksonville, FL, paternal grandmother, Catherine “Kitty” Hoptak, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, his longtime dear friend and confidant, Scott Hunt, Johnstown, and two beloved cats, Salvation and Hades.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 6:00pm at the Salvation Army, 400 Sanderson St, Pottsville. A public visitation for family and friends will be at 5:15pm until time of services.
Tyler’s family prefers remembrances in the form of contributions to Humane Society of Cambria County, 743 Galleria Drive Ext., Johnstown, PA 15904.
