Joann Bright Collier, 76, of Auburn, passed away Wednesday at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg.

Born in Reading, Sept. 11, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Richard and Pauline Margaret Enzmann Bright.

She graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1957. She then enlisted in the Air Force and became one of the youngest instructors of new recruits at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, where she met her future husband, Richard. They were then married in Texas. She was honorably discharged from the Air Force while in Texas. They were transferred to Chanute Air Force Base and after many years and with her husband in Vietnam, she transferred to Andrews Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. She was private assistant to Air Force Colonel Dr. W. Dickman. 

When she returned to Reading, she enrolled in Operating Room Tech School at Reading Hospital and Medical Center (RHMC). Then went to help expand the dental department at St. Joseph Hospital, 13th Street location. After that she went back to school at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated valedictorian of her class. Joann retired from RHMC as an operating registered nurse. 

In 1995 she moved to Lake Wynonah with her husband Richard of 50 years. He died July 20, 2010. They had no children but loving pets, two dogs and a cat. 

She is survived by a brother, Michael and his wife, Glenda, and nieces, nephews and cousins in Pennsylvania.

No viewing will be held. Private interment will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hillside SPCA, P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.
