Leona M. (Stockunas) Taronis

Leona M. Taronis, 95, formerly of Port Carbon, passed away Saturday at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, where she had been a resident.

Born in Mahanoy City, Jan. 20, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Simon and Helen Raulinaitis Stockunas.

She was the widow of Charles J. Taronis, who passed away Nov. 10, 1987.

She had been employed as a garment worker in local textile factories.

She was a member of the former St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church, Saint Clair, where she was active in many church activities, including choir and the Rosary Confraternity.

Leona belonged to Knights of Lithuania Council 144, in which she and her husband were very active members. She also was a member of the Lithuanian Women's Club of Schuylkill County.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Leona is survived by four children, Leona Klazas and husband, Joseph, Lititz, Bernadette Buffington, widow of William, Llewellyn, Charles F. Taronis and wife, Mary Eileen, Pottsville, and Terry Rautzhan and husband, Brian, Pottsville; nine grandchildren, Karen Black and husband, Bruce, Tennessee, Colleen Bertz and husband, Thomas, Morgantown, Joseph Klazas and wife, Heather, Lititz, David Buffington and wife, Cindy, Minersville, Todd Buffington, Minersville, Charles Taronis, Pottsville, Erin Fellinger and husband, Brandon, Orwigsburg, Amy Rautzhan and her fiance, Danny Gonzalez, Minersville, and Leslie Murray and husband, Kevin, Cressona; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass in the lower chapel of the church. Interment will follow at St. Casimir Cemetery, East Norwegian Township. At the family's request, memorial donations in Leona's memory may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
