Sydney Kurtz Obituary

Sydney M. Kurtz, 82, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Tuesday, June 19th, at home.

Born in Hershey on June 1, 1936, he was a son of the late Gethin A. & Columbine (Bilotta) Kurtz.

He was the husband of Joan (Sotzin) Kurtz. The couple would have celebrated 58 years of marriage, July 13, 2018.

Sydney received a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University in 1959.

He worked as a forester for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry.

Sydney served in the U.S. Army as a SP4.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, where he served as lay minister and as a CCD teacher.

Sydney also belonged to Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters: Stephanie Ragusky, Chantilly, VA, Cynthia M. Kurtz, Havertown, PA, Susan J. Iaquinta & husband, Stephen, Havertown, PA, & Rachel L. Kalyan & husband, Edward, Myerstown, grandchildren: Kendal & Paige Ragusky, Stephen & Nicholas Iaquinta, Joshua & Nathan Kalyan, a sister, Theresa Trost & husband, Thomas, Texas, and nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Sydney is also preceded in death by his brother, Gethin J. Kurtz.

A Catholic Memorial Mass will be conducted at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21st,with Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik officiating.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. at the church.

Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
