Velma Breidigan Obituary

Velma D. (Maurer) Breidigan was born into this world on May 5, 1941, the daughter of Maude (Klinger) Maurer and Allen C. Maurer. Velma moved to the heavens on May 10, 2023, at the age of 82. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Queen Holmes, Brother Allen G. Maurer, nephew Mark Holmes.

Surviving are her daughters Debbie Gilbert, wife of James, Schuylkill Haven; Pennie Fisher, wife of Dale, Schuylkill Haven; Laurie Breidigan, partner of Michael Santella, Auburn; grandchildren Candise (Gilbert) Dunham, Denver CO; Riley James Gilbert, Elkton, MD; Amanda Breidigan; nine great grandchildren.

Velma was a graduate of Pottsville High School class of 1959. After graduation she worked for Bell Telephone Company, Pottsville Gas Company, Schuylkill Haven Trust Co, Reneer Films, ReDCo Group, Hamburg State hospital, Weiss Markets, and Holy Family Adult Daycare. She partnered with long-time friend Andra Seltzer to establish Klean Bee Cleaning Company.

Velma was an extraordinary person; first and foremost, she was a caregiver. She lived her life striving for the best and failure was never a word she used. She always stood by the people she loved and supported her family unconditionally. She attended continuing education as an adult at Penn State; she then returned for art classes after retirement. She enjoyed many facets of life. An integral part of her life was her passion for gardening and cultivating flowers, creating art, crocheting and knitting.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in memory of Velma to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th floor, New York, NY 10001. Checks should be made payable to “Alzheimer’s Foundation of America” with Velma’s name in the memo line.
