Margaret Greenawald

Margaret M. Greenawald, 88, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Lehigh County. 

Margaret was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, Dec. 30, 1926, a daughter of the late Gretchen and Adam Christ.

Margaret came to the United States in 1948, settling in Schuylkill Haven as the wife of the late Glen W. Greenawald, who served with the post-war occupation armed forces in Friedberg, Germany.

She was a graduate of Marywood College, Scranton, with a degree in early childhood development. She was employed by Schuylkill County Child Development Program, working in Port Carbon, Palo Alto, Saint Clair and Pottsville, and retired in 1996. 

She was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, and the International Club.

Margaret was preceded in death her parents and a sister, Luise Christ.

Margaret is survived by a daughter, Karen, wife of Joseph Zmuida, Chester Springs; three sons, Glen M., husband of Rose Greenawald, Macungie, Edward, husband of Irene Greenawald, Warminster, and Tim Greenawald, Schuylkill Haven. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Larry, husband of Leila, and Lauren Greenawald and Derek and Dan Zmuida; a brother, Klaus Christ, Germany. 

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. At the family's request, memorial donations can be sent to American Diabetes Association  , 1701 N.
